The Scholarships360 Research Team reviews all scholarships individually and strives to exclude any scholarship where any of the below applies:

  • The scholarship requires a fee to apply
  • The scholarship provider’s privacy policy allows for the misuse of student data
  • The scholarship requires paid membership in an organization (with certain exceptions for reputable trade organizations and others)
  • Student are required to sign up for a site or service to apply*
  • The scholarship seems primarily used for lead generation** or idea harvesting purposes***
  • The scholarship website has many grammatical errors and/or advertisements
  • The scholarship or scholarship providing organization seem untrustworthy
  • There is no evidence the scholarship was previously awarded
  • The scholarship has not been awarded in the past 12 months

Scholarship Overview

Are you a John Lennon fan passionate about making music? Consider applying for the John Lennon Scholarship! Established by Yoko Ono herself in 1997, the John Lennon Scholarship aims to help young music-making college students pay off their school debts. The scholarship is open to current college students and alumni between the ages of 17 and 24. Applicants must either compose or write songs in one of many contemporary musical genres including alternative, rock, R&B, and more.  Each year, three awards totalling $20,000 are given to help students pay for their schooling. Not only does the scholarship help pay off school debt, but it also is considered a highly esteemed accolade for young songwriters. If you’re passionate about songwriting or composing, we highly encourage you to apply!

Application information

To apply for the John Lennon Scholarship, you must submit an original song in a contemporary musical genre. This includes (but is not limited to) alternative, pop, rock, indie, electronica, R&B, and experimental. No essay required! The songs will be judged by a panel of music publishers, songwriters, musicians, and executives.
