Are you a graduate student planning to teach American history, government, or civics at the secondary school level? If so, consider applying for the James Madison Graduate Fellowships! The fellowships are open to students currently pursuing graduate degrees who are or plan on teaching American history, government, or civics to grades 7-12. The program is funded by the James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation, an independent agency of the federal government. Since 1986, the foundation’s goal has been to improve secondary school teaching about the U.S. Constitution. Thus, the fellowships honor James Madison’s legacy and principles with the hopes that teachers will transmit these values and knowledge about the Constitution to their students. Recipients may earn up to $12,000 per year of academic study. If you are passionate about becoming an American history, government, or civics teacher for secondary school students, we encourage you to apply!
The fellowships are open to students who hold a bachelor's degree and are current or aspiring teachers of American history, government, or civics at the secondary school level(grades 7-12) in the state from which they earn the fellowship. Applicants must also meet the below eligibility requirements.
