Scholarship Review Process

The Scholarships360 Research Team reviews all scholarships individually and strives to exclude any scholarship where any of the below applies:

  • The scholarship requires a fee to apply
  • The scholarship provider’s privacy policy allows for the misuse of student data
  • The scholarship requires paid membership in an organization (with certain exceptions for reputable trade organizations and others)
  • Student are required to sign up for a site or service to apply*
  • The scholarship seems primarily used for lead generation** or idea harvesting purposes***
  • The scholarship website has many grammatical errors and/or advertisements
  • The scholarship or scholarship providing organization seem untrustworthy
  • There is no evidence the scholarship was previously awarded
  • The scholarship has not been awarded in the past 12 months
  • There is no available contact information

* There are certain exceptions to this, for example if the sponsoring organization is a major corporation or nonprofit with its own scholarship application system.

Scholarship Overview

The Friends of Volo Bog Environmental Studies/Natural Science Scholarship Program is open to academically impressive college students and high school seniors interested in pursuing an environmental career. Applicants must have a permanent residence in Lake, McHenry, Kane, Cook, DuPage, Kendall, or Will County (Illinois), have attended a high school in one of these counties, and have a minimum B average. If you’re from one of these Illinois counties and planning to pursue an environmental career, we encourage you to apply! Keep on reading to learn more, and keep on keeping the world green.

About Friends of Volo Bog

Friends of Volo Bog's purpose is to promote citizen awareness of the local natural heritage of Volo Bog State Natural Area, portions of which are dedicated state nature preserves, and to preserve the same through special events, educational and training programs, acquisitions of properties for such purposes and take whatever steps deemed necessary to insure the continued care and preservation of Volo Bog State Natural Area as a natural site.
