The Freshman Engineering Scholarship is a one-year scholarship available annually to a rising sophomore pursuing a Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in a course of study that traditionally has been a preparatory curriculum for the HVAC&R profession. To qualify, you must either have a minimum 3.0 GPA or have a class standing in the top 30 percent of their class. Applicants must also meet at least one of the following criteria: your institution has an active ASHRAE student branch, your program is accredited by ABET (the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology), or your agency outside the USA is a signatory of The Washington Accord or has a signed Memorandum of Understanding with ABET. To be considered for the scholarship, interested students must submit a completed application and have their transcript and three signed letters of recommendation mailed directly to ASHRAE or, via email to Savanna Smith ssmith@ashrae.org).

Through its scholarships, ASHRAE seeks to motivate students and prospective students worldwide to pursue an engineering or technology career in the HVAC&R field, part of the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) industry. The Society's Scholarship Program also serves the public interest by aiding in the education of men and women to become qualified to practice as engineers in HVAC&R.
