The Eugene C. Pulliam Fellowship for Editorial Writing has been recognizing exceptional part-time or full-time editorial writers and columnists since 1977. This prestigious scholarship is open to those working at news publications in the United States, as well as freelance opinion writers. To be eligible, applicants must have a minimum of three years of experience in editorial writing or column writing. Interested students must submit a one-page professional biography and summary of professional experience, a cover letter stating the purpose and nature of the proposed project, a timeline for accomplishing the work, and a plan for how the stipend will be used, and five samples of their opinion or analytical writing to be considered for the project. Applicants’ projects must also be endorsed by an editor, including for self-employed applicants.
