Rand Jr. was a pioneer in the field of Park Law Enforcement, serving as Commander of the Prince George’s County Division of the Maryland National Capital Park Police and PLEA Vice President up until his passing, responsible for bringing many new innovations to the field of park law enforcement.
If you, like Commander Newell, have a passion for law enforcement in National Parks or a related field, the Commander Newell S. Rand Jr. Scholarship Program may be the perfect opportunity for you! To qualify for the scholarship, worth up to $1,000, applicants must be pursuing an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s Degree in an accredited course of study relating to a career in some aspect of park operations. Eligible fields include, but are not limited to, Conservation Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice/Police Science, Natural Resource Management, and Park Management or Administration. Applicants must also have a minimum 2.8 GPA to qualify.
