Scholarship Overview

There are a lot of ways to pay for college, and we want to help you figure it out!

As a part of this scholarship, we’re offering you both monetary awards and financial coaching sessions with a Going Merry financial aid specialist.

10 semifinalists will receive a FREE one-on-one coaching session from a Going Merry Financial Aid Specialist, and 1 winner will receive a FREE coaching session AND a $500 scholarship!

Depending on where you are in the “paying for college” process, the coaching session can focus on any of these 6 key elements of college finances:

  1. The FAFSA®: Learn how to apply for financial aid and get as much free money as possible.
  2. State grants: Get state-specific financial aid. State governments often provide money for college separately from the FAFSA®, especially for students intending to study in-state.
  3. Scholarships: Get tips on how to leverage Going Merry to find scholarships, and spend time on the scholarships you’re more likely to win!
  4. Financial aid award letter analysis: We’ll explain what your award letters mean, and show you how to make the best financial decision when choosing which college to attend.
  5. Appealing for more aid: Think of your financial aid package as an initial offer – there’s always room to appeal for more aid! We provide letter templates and appeal reasons to help you get more financial aid when possible.
  6. Student loans: Learn how they fit into the picture, and how to prioritize low-interest, flexible repayment options with the intent of keeping student loan debt to a minimum.
