Offered by Chicago Coalition for the Homeless
The Chicago Coalition for the Homeless Scholarship annually rewards $4,000 to approximately 24 graduating high school seniors in Chicago who succeeded in school while experiencing homelessness. “Homelessness” includes lacking a fixed, regular, and adequate night time residence, and includes students living in a shelter, car, motel, doubled-up situation, or places not meant for human habitation, or lacking permanent housing. Applicants must be planning on attending a post-secondary institution, and may study any field of their choice. If you’re a Chicago high school senior who has experienced homelessness, we encourage you to apply and take a step towards a brighter future. Keep on reading to learn more!
The Chicago Coalition for the Homeless (CCH), since 1980, has followed a clear mission to "Organize and advocate to prevent and end homelessness, because we believe housing is a human right in a just society.” Their organization leads strategic campaigns, community outreach, and public policy initiatives that target the lack of affordable housing in metropolitan Chicago and across Illinois. In addition, CCH presses for access to public schools, support services including health care, and job opportunities. Their community organizers, policy specialists, and public interest attorneys advocate with people hurt by homelessness, including mothers with children, students, unaccompanied youth, returning citizens, and low-wage workers.
