Carl Scott, who called New Mexico home for 90 years, was a graduate from the New Mexico Military Institute and served in World War II. After suffering an injury and becoming disabled, he returned to New Mexico to work as an engineer for the Civil Service. Through his estate, Scott established a program to help New Mexico residents from Quay County fund their postsecondary education.
Worth between $500 and $2,100, this scholarship is open to Quay County residents who are either graduating high school seniors beginning their college education, currently enrolled college students, or nontraditional students. Nontraditional students are defined individuals who are returning to school after time away, pursuing a career change, or a first time adult student. Applicants who are not residents of Quay County are eligible if they are the child of a member in good standing of Tucumcari Lodge No. 27, AF & AM.
