  • The scholarship requires a fee to apply
  • The scholarship provider’s privacy policy allows for the misuse of student data
  • The scholarship requires paid membership in an organization (with certain exceptions for reputable trade organizations and others)
  • Student are required to sign up for a site or service to apply*
  • The scholarship seems primarily used for lead generation** or idea harvesting purposes***
  • The scholarship website has many grammatical errors and/or advertisements
  • The scholarship or scholarship providing organization seem untrustworthy
  • There is no evidence the scholarship was previously awarded

Scholarship Overview

The Berntsen International Scholarship in Surveying Technology is for students enrolled in two-year degree programs in surveying technology. To apply, you’ll need to be a member of NSPS and submit three original letters of recommendation. Additionally, you’ll need to write a personal letter explaining why you chose your field of study, your commitment to education, community involvement, awards and honors, career goals, and any financial difficulties you’re facing. The American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (ACSM) is a professional membership society for the spatial data information industry. American Congress on Surveying and Mapping's members include three primary organizations (NSPS, AAGS and GLIS), whose professionals include surveying and mapping professionals such as surveyors, cartographers, geodesists, and other spatial data information related professionals. ACSM and the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS) have proposed to merge.
