The Scholarships360 Research Team reviews all scholarships individually and strives to exclude any scholarship where any of the below applies:

  • The scholarship requires a fee to apply
  • The scholarship provider’s privacy policy allows for the misuse of student data
  • The scholarship requires paid membership in an organization (with certain exceptions for reputable trade organizations and others)
  • Student are required to sign up for a site or service to apply*
  • The scholarship seems primarily used for lead generation** or idea harvesting purposes***
  • The scholarship website has many grammatical errors and/or advertisements
  • The scholarship or scholarship providing organization seem untrustworthy
  • There is no evidence the scholarship was previously awarded
  • The scholarship has not been awarded in the past 12 months
  • There is no available contact information

* There are certain exceptions to this, for example if the sponsoring organization is a major corporation or nonprofit with its own scholarship application system.

Scholarship Overview

The Anchor Scholarship Foundation provides scholarships to eligible family members (children and spouses) of active duty, retired, and honorably discharged Surface Navy personnel. Eligible dependents are described as follows: For a child dependent – High school senior or current college student planning to, or currently pursuing full time, his/her first associates, BA or BS at a 2-or 4-year college or university or industry certification in the United States; Up to the age of 22 on March 1st of the year the scholarship is being awarded. For a spouse dependent – High school graduate, associates, BA or BS or graduate degree, current college student planning to or currently pursuing his/her first associates, BA or BS, or graduate degree at a 2-or 4-year college or university, full or part-time. Awards are divided into Foundation Scholarships and Ship’s Company Scholarships. Depending on the scholarship category, applicants may have to submit: Proof of Relationship to Sponsor; Qualifying Commands; Supporting Documentation for qualifying assignments, DD 214 Member Copy 4; Qualifying Commands Form.

About Anchor Scholarship Foundation

The Foundation provides financial assistance to children and spouses of active duty, retired and honorably discharged Sailors of the Naval Surface Forces, U.S. Atlantic or Pacific Fleets, who will be pursuing their first industry certification, 2-year or 4-year undergraduate degree. Spouses have the additional option of pursuing a first time graduate degree.
