The American Legion Auxiliary Department of Michigan Memorial Scholarship is offered to a descendant of a veteran. Applicants must reside in Michigan at the time of application for at least one year preceding the date of the award. Applicants must be going into, or in their senior year of high school, or freshman/sophomore year of college but not over 21 years of age. Lastly, applicants must pursue a course of study at any school, college, or other educational institution in the state of Michigan. The American Legion Department of Michigan is a war-time veterans community-service organization dedicated to supporting veterans and their families. The Department thus provides aid to veterans and sponsors youth programs to maintain an ongoing concern, support and commitment to the veteran community. In addition, the American Legion is strongly committed to maintaining a strong national defense.
