Are you a college-bound high school senior from Idaho who is a direct descendent of a veteran who served in the United States Armed Forces during (a) April 6, 1917 – Nov. 11, 1918 or (b) December 7, 1941 – present day? If so, consider applying for the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Idaho Traditional Nurses Scholarship! Each year, the scholarship awards $1,000 to multiple Idaho high school seniors who are aspiring nurses and descend from U.S. Army Veterans who served during the eligible dates. To apply, interested students must submit a letter of application, three letters of recommendation, their high school transcript, their veteran’s certificate of honorable discharge (Form DD-214), and a current financial statement (by completing the FAFSA).

The American Legion Auxiliary adheres to the following purposes: to support and advocate for veterans, active military, and their families, to support the initiatives and programs of The American Legion, foster patriotism and responsible citizenship, to award scholarships and promote quality education and literacy, to provide educational and leadership opportunities that uphold the ideals of freedom and democracy and encourage good citizenship and patriotism in government, to increase their capacity to deliver their Mission by providing meaningful volunteer opportunities within their communities, and to empower their membership to achieve personal fulfillment through “service not self.”
