How to win scholarships in July
Even though you might be relaxing and enjoying your summer, the new school year will be here before you know it! Dust off your computer and try your hand at writing a 250 word essay or go even further with a 500 word one. The best part is that you can take your time without worrying about school assignments. Be sure to talk about yourself and what makes you the best fit for the scholarship.
Tips for students in July
Even though July is smack in the middle of the summer, there are still some essential things that high school and college students can be doing to get ahead!
Rising high school seniors
For juniors who will be rising seniors, this is your last true summer as a high school student. With the college admissions process right around the corner we recommend that students try to finish the following before the school year starts:
Complete your personal statement
Finish a draft of your main personal statement for the Common App or the Coalition Application. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but a solid draft will save you a lot of time during your senior year.
Finish your Common App
Speaking of your college applications, you should try to finish your main application (whether that is Common App, the Coalition Application, or something else). Going through the entire application and completing the questions shouldn’t take more than a few hours!
Self-study for AP exams
If you’re interested in placing out of classes in college, consider self-studying for AP exams. This can help you jump straight to the classes which interest you, and if you’re interested in saving money by graduating early, these AP credits can be very useful.
Rising college freshmen
Start a summer project!
If you recently graduated from high school and are on your way to college, congratulations! You are probably already busy with your summer vacation, but if not, it isn’t too late to start a new activity or project!
If you take out student loans, do your research
Paying for college is one of the big things on students’ minds before they start college. If you still need financial aid after your grants and scholarships have been used, you may need to take out student loans. Get the inside scoop on them in our Ultimate Guide to Student Loans.
