FSU Scholarships and Financial Aid
Florida State University (also known as FSU) is a public university located in Tallahassee, Florida. As a large institution with over 40,000 students, FSU offers a diverse array of majors throughout 16 different colleges. FSU Scholarships and Financial Aid includes a number of great opportunities for high schools students to consider.
Florida State Merit Scholarship
The major FSU merit scholarships are:
- University Freshman Scholarship
- Presidential Scholars Program
- Tuition Reduction Scholarships
- Talent Scholarship
University Freshman Scholarship
This scholarship is great because all accepted freshman are automatically considered for it. How great is that? These scholarships are worth $2,400 per year and can be renewed for four years at FSU.
It should also be noted that students who apply for admission for November 1st will be given priority consideration. If you are considering Florida State, this is a great reason to get your application in early!
Presidential Scholars Program
All accepted freshman who receive the University Freshman Scholarship can also be considered for the FSU Presidential Scholars Program. The Scholars Program has a separate application and winning students receive:
- An additional $2,400 per year
- $12,000 for educational enrichment opportunities
- Out-of-state applicants will also receive a full out-of-state tuition waiver to get in-state tuition (this is a big deal because in-state tuition is roughly $15,000 less than out-of-state tuition per year!)
Tuition Reduction Scholarships
Accepted out-of-state students will be automatically considered for Out-of-State Scholarships (no separate application is required). These scholarships can offer a full or partial waiver of the out-of-state tuition. As mentioned, in-state tuition is roughly $15,000 less per year, so even a partial waiver is a great deal for students.
Talent Scholarship
FSU also offers scholarships to students who demonstrate a strong ability in music, dance or theater. Consideration for these scholarships is talent-based and requires an audition.
Need-based FSU Financial Aid
Florida State also offers need-based aid to students including both Federal and State aid including the Florida Student Assistance Program and the First Generation Matching Grant. These financial aid opportunities are aimed at supporting Florida residents who have demonstrated financial need or are first generation college students. FSU also offers institutional grants that are need-based including the Florida State University Grant and Differential Florida State University Grant.
To be eligible for any of these need-based FSU financial aid opportunities students must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA application.
