While attending Napoleon High School in Napoleon, Michigan, Phillip Guy Richardson was an exemplary athlete and team leader, excelling and setting an example for his teammates in basketball, football, baseball, and track. His leadership extended beyond courts and fields, being voted class president for three years of high school before going on to begin a career as a Navy Pilot post-graduation. While trying to steer an aircraft away from hoards of people on the ground after a jet engine failure, Philip saved tons of lives in the process but unfortunately lost his.
In his honor, the Phillip Guy Richardson Memorial Scholarship annually awards up to $4,000 each (recipients may be able to earn an additional $1,000 from Napoleon Community Schools) to selected graduating Napoleon High School seniors. Applicants should demonstrate Philip’s impressive citizenship, participation in sports and school activities, and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. The scholarship may renewed up to three (3) times as long as recipients maintain renewal criteria.
The Phillip Guy Richardson Memorial Scholarship is one of many scholarships for students exhibiting leadership skills and scholarships for Michigan residents. If it sounds like a good opportunity for you, we encourage you to apply and explore others you may qualify for as well. Good luck with your scholarship search!
