Student leaders looking to apply to the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill – be sure to check out the Morehead-Cain Scholarship! Established by a UNC-Chapel Hill alumnus John Motley Morehead, the scholarship aims to find incoming Chapel Hill Tarheels who wish to make an impact on the school, the local community, the country, and the world as a whole.
Each year, the scholarship awards a “full ride” to multiple incoming Chapel Hill freshmen who have demonstrated a history of leadership through their high school years. While residents of any state, and even foreign countries, are eligible, only North Carolina residents can self-nominate. Thus, if you’re an out-of-state student or international student looking to be considered for the Morehead-Cain Scholarship, bear in mind that you must be nominated by your high school or an affiliate program.

The Morehead-Cain Foundation was originally established by its namesake, under the name John Motley Morehead Foundation, in November of 1945. Despite its slight name change, its mission has stayed the same: to "better [John Morehead's] beloved alma mater, and by extension, the state of North Carolina, the country, and the world." From its founding to today, the Foundation has consistently tried to find, invest in, and empower dynamic, purpose-driven leaders from North Carolina who can make an impact on the world as a whole.
