The Horatio Alger State Scholarships are open to college-bound, low-income high school juniors from all 50 states and Washington, D.C. who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives. Applicants must exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States, be involved in co-curricular or community service activities, and be U.S. Citizens. The Horatio Alger Association's Members and Friends, since 1984, have funded need-based college scholarships for low-income youth to pursue their dreams through higher education. By 2023, they anticipate having awarded a total of $245 million in scholarships to more than 35,000 deserving students. Through its many scholarship programs, the Association supports students pursuing career and technical certificates and degrees, bachelor’s degrees, and graduate studies.
