Offered by The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina
The Heffington Scholarship is named after Mark W. Heffington, M.D. and Nina Weintraub Heffinton. Sadly, this scholarship became a memorial scholarship when Nina lost a battle with cancer in 1999 at the age of 42. Nina was an involved Cashiers and Highlands community member in North Carolina. She was kind, enthusiastic and had an extreme dedication toward helping young people succeed. Therefore, this scholarship aims to help students in the Cashiers-Highlands area further their education.
The Heffington Scholarship offers $3,000 to two graduating high school seniors who are members of the Cashiers or Highlands communities in North Carolina. Students who attend the NC School of Science and Mathematics, the UNC School of the Arts High School or a home school registered with the NC Division of Non-Public Education are also eligible as long as your primary residence is either in the Cashiers or Highlands community. Applicants should demonstrate strong moral character, financial need, willingness to learn, community service and extracurricular activities.
Don’t miss out on additional Scholarships360 scholarship opportunities! There are plenty of other scholarships for North Carolina residents available through our platform. Happy applying!
