Offered by American Council of the Blind
Individuals who are legally blind, as opposed to those with total blindness, may have some useful vision. To qualify as legally blind, individuals must not be able to see better than 20/200 in the best eye with glasses or contact lenses or whose visual field in the best eye is 20 degrees or less at the widest diameter with glasses or contact lenses. Despite this, it can still affect someone’s way of life, and thus the Floyd Qualls Memorial Scholarship was established to help fund the higher education of legally blind individuals!
To qualify for the scholarship, individuals must be current or incoming post-secondary students diagnosed as legally blind. In addition, applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, work at least 32 hours per week on top of attending school, and be involved in their school and local community. Each year, the scholarship awards between $2,500 and $7,500 each to five (5) academically impressive, legally blind students.
