Offered by Kalamazoo Community Foundation
Eva Ozier was a 1971 Kalamazoo Valley Community College graduate who made the brave decision to return to schooling after taking 18 years away and raising six children. After graduating from the school, she would go on to receive a Bachelor’s and Master’s from Western Michigan University before serving as a teacher for 17 years and on the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners for 22 years. In honor of Mrs. Ozier and the many contributions she made to her local Kalamazoo community, her family established the Eva L. Ozier Scholarship.
To qualify for the scholarship, individuals must be Black residents of Kalamazoo County who are graduating high school seniors or Black high school seniors graduating from a Kalamazoo County high school. Applicants must also be seeking a professional certification or associate degree and have a minimum 2.75 GPA. Each year, recipients will be selected to earn between $1,000 and $2,000 to go toward their pursuit of higher education.
