Today’s scholarship is sponsored by the National Park Service (NPS) in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. This scholarship is an art scholarship for students between the ages of 13 and 18 (most high school and some college students are eligible).
There are three separate categories for art submissions: photography, poetry, and digital short films.
As this scholarship is commemorating the Emancipation Proclamation, the United States Civil War will be the focus. Students are asked to explore the notion of freedom within the context of these themes:
- The significance of the Emancipation Proclamation and the Civil War
- The struggles of the American Civil Rights movement
- A path to freedom and equality reflected in one of America’s national parks
The scholarship award will be given to the first-place winner ($2,500 scholarship) and the runner-up ($1,000 scholarship).
Artistic submissions are due by October 15, 2012 and winers will be announced in January 2013!
To apply, check out the NPS Scholarship website.
Best of luck to all students!
