The Mas Family Scholarship is open to students who are born in Cuba (or are of direct Cuban descent). This scholarship aims to “advance the education of talented young Cuban and Cuban American men and women, furthering their commitment to promoting the benefits and opportunities that can be garnered through hard work in a free society.”
What are the requirements for the scholarship?
The other eligibility requirements for this scholarship are that students must demonstrate demonstrated financial need and must have a minimum of a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Students must also submit a completed application by January 9, 2017.
What does the application include?

- Educational expenses (your school’s most recent statement regarding tuition costs. If you are undecided, include the costs of your top choice).
- FAFSA Statement of Need
- Test scores (either ACT or SAT scores)
- 1,000 word personal essay
- Recommendation
- Official school transcripts
- Proof of Cuban descent
- Proof of Admission
How are scholarship decisions made?
The scholarship committee will be considering academic performance, leadership, “potential to contribute to the advancement of a free society” and the likelihood of success in a chosen career. The scholarship committee will also be considering demonstrated financial need.
When is the scholarship application due?
The application must be postmarked by January 09, 2017.
What is the value of the Mas Family Scholarship?
Scholars may receive up to $32,000 over four years of college, as long as scholars maintain the prerequisites for receiving them. While full scholarships cannot be awarded to recipients receiving full-tuition scholarships and/or stipendiary support from other sources, recipients are still eligible for partial awards.
