The Elevate Mental Health Awareness Scholarship is offered by Calvin Rosser in honor of his beloved mom Sheri, who battled depression for most of her life. Even though Sheri constantly reached out for help, she was caught in a broken, outdated mental health system that offered her addictive drugs and ineffectual therapy practices rather than the help she needed. In despair, Sheri took her own life in 2017. Despite her struggles, Sheri taught her son the importance of compassion and giving back. Calvin offers this scholarship in the hope that it brings greater awareness about the importance of improving mental health services. When talking about mental health, Calvin’s greatest hope is that when we “bring the darkness to light, it will slowly fade.”
