AARP Foundation Women’s Scholarship Program
While many scholarships are for traditional students, there are plenty of opportunities for students who are “non-traditional.” In this case, non-traditional is referring to middle-aged students.
The AARP Foundation Women’s Scholarship Program is currently offering scholarships to women who are age 50+ by March 30, 2012, have a low-income, are pursuing a technical or vocational education, an associates degree, or a bachelor’s degree, and are enrolled in a U.S. Department of Education accredited school or technical program within 6 months of the scholarship award date.
Scholarship awards range from $500-$5000, depending on financial need and the cost of the education or training program.
Priority will be given to those who have been unemployed for more than one year, those in low-paying jobs with no career opportunities, those who are raising the children of another family member, and those who are women veterans. Scholarship selection will be based on financial need, personal circumstances and achievements, educational and career goals, challenges faced in life, and the impact of the scholarship.
To apply, you must create an account through the AARP Foundation site. Applications are due by Friday March 30, 2012, at 5 p.m. CDT. If you have any questions, check out the FAQ page on the AARP site. Best of luck!
