Emilie Hesemeyer Memorial Scholarship
The Association of American Indian Affairs offers The Emilie Hesemeyer Memorial Scholarship, an annual scholarship for American Indian and Native Alaskan full-time undergraduate students. Although the scholarship indicates a preference to students working on a degree in education, other applicants are still considered. These scholarships are $1500 in amount, and are renewable up to four years!
In order to be fully eligible, an applicant must submit documentation of financial need, a Certificate of Indian Blood showing at least 1/4 Indian blood, proof of tribal enrollment, an essay on their educational goals, two letters of recommendation, and their most recent transcript.
A PDF of the 2011-2012 application can be found here. To get an idea of what other students have won (and what colleges they go to), or to see other scholarships for American Indians, check out the “Scholarships” page on their site. As always, best of luck!
