    From UVA

When the University of Virginia was founded in 1819, it didn’t just break the mold of higher education. It became a center for critical thought, designed not just to create a better kind of university but better leaders and a more educated society. In a setting of extraordinary beauty and tradition, students gather to exchange ideas, dream boldly, and commit themselves to a better society and world.

Every UVA student is unique representing a range of backgrounds, regions, and experiences. Yet there are defining traits that each of our students share. They are barrier-breakers, transforming obstacles into opportunities. They are world-changers, willing to lead and follow. They are wave-makers, challenging convention and imagining the unimaginable. But what truly defines a UVA student is not their accolades or achievements, but rather their unswerving commitment to serve the greater good.

UVA students will choose from more than 60 majors across eight schools and colleges. Nationally recognized as the best financial aid program of any public institution in the country, UVA is committed to meeting 100% of demonstrated financial need for all domestic students.

    Admissions Overview

    From UVA

Successful applicants to UVA are students who have done well academically within the context of their high school or college setting, based on their coursework and grades. While taking into consideration what is offered and recommended within a student’s school, we are interested in applicants who embrace academic challenges across the curriculum, and who are successful within the classroom space. What is the application deadline at UVA?

Students must apply by January 5 to enroll at UVA during the fall semester. Be sure to start your application as soon as you can to make sure you have enough time to make it as compelling as possible.

At UVA students also have the opportunity to apply Early Decision. In order to take advantage of this option, you’ll have to have your application in by November 1.

Should I apply Regular or Early Decision to UVA?

Applying to UVA with Early Decision can be a great decision if you are 100% sure you want to go there. You’ll find out your admissions decision earlier than other students, and some data shows that you may help your admissions chances. However, you should keep in mind that Early Decision is binding. If you do get into the school, you won’t be able to change your mind later. If there is any doubt in your mind, you should apply Early Action or Regular Decision instead.

Read more: All you need to know about Early Action vs Early Decision

Should I apply Early Action at UVA?

Early Action is a great option for students who want to hear back from a college before the Regular Decision admissions are released. At some colleges, applying Early Action can also help your admissions chances. However, this varies on a college-by-college basis, so it will not always give you a boost.

Be on the lookout for Single Choice Early Action or Restricted Early Action options. These are not the same as Early Action, and although they can be great options for some students, they are not a good fit for everyone. If you’re considering applying for Single Choice Early Action or Restricted Early Action, be sure to read the college’s admissions website carefully. Make sure that these restrictions fit with your college admissions plan.
